This class is defined by chain length. Every compound here is nine residues or fewer: Epithalon is a tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly), Pinealon a tripeptide (Glu-Asp-Arg), Semax a heptapeptide analogue of ACTH(4-10), Selank a tuftsin-derived heptapeptide, and DSIP a nonapeptide (Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu). What is the difference between Semax and Selank?
Both are synthetic heptapeptides. Semax is an analogue of ACTH(4-10) with a Pro-Gly-Pro C-terminus; Selank is derived from the tetrapeptide tuftsin with the same Pro-Gly-Pro extension. Their sequences and expected masses differ.
