About melanocortin peptides
Melanocortin peptides derive from alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone. PT-141 (bremelanotide) and Melanotan II are cyclic heptapeptide analogues of alpha-MSH studied at melanocortin receptors; PT-141 is the deacetylated, carboxylate form of Melanotan II. KPV is the linear C-terminal tripeptide of alpha-MSH (Lys-Pro-Val), residues 11 to 13, and is also a component of the KLOW blend.
The structural difference between the two cyclic analogues is small and is exactly what identity testing distinguishes: the two differ by an acetyl group and the C-terminal amide versus acid, so their expected masses differ and a certificate's identity result separates them.
Regulatory note: an approved pharmaceutical formulation of bremelanotide exists for one indication. The research-grade PT-141 sold here is not that product and is for in vitro research only. Melanocortin analogues also appear on the World Anti-Doping Agency prohibited list.
Product pages link the monographs in the research library and the current lot certificate for each size.
Questions
What is the difference between PT-141 and Melanotan II?
PT-141 is the deacetylated form of Melanotan II with a C-terminal carboxylate instead of an amide. Both are cyclic heptapeptide alpha-MSH analogues; their expected masses differ, which is how identity testing separates them.
What is KPV?
The C-terminal tripeptide of alpha-MSH, Lys-Pro-Val (residues 11 to 13). It is sold as a single compound and is a component of the KLOW blend.
Is PT-141 an approved pharmaceutical?
An approved pharmaceutical formulation of bremelanotide exists for one indication. The research-grade PT-141 sold here is not that product; it is for in vitro research only.
How are melanocortin peptides tested?
HPLC purity and mass-based identity per lot by a third-party laboratory, with the certificate linked from each product page.
