Chromatographic retention time
Retention time describes when a component elutes under specified chromatographic conditions. It is a method-dependent observation rather than a universal identifier assigned to a compound.
For research use only. Not for human or veterinary use.
Two reports can show different retention times without necessarily describing different materials. Compare the column, mobile phase, program and other reported conditions before treating the difference as an identity discrepancy.
What to retain in a research record
- Time and units
- Method conditions
- Relevant reference or standard
