D and L amino acid notation
D and L notation describes amino acid stereochemistry. It is not a purity grade, and the two labels do not indicate that one material is stronger or more suitable for a research question.
For research use only. Not for human or veterinary use.
Where stereochemistry is specified, retain it at the relevant residue. A formula alone may not resolve that distinction. If the record lacks stereochemical detail, make the gap visible rather than assume all residues have the same configuration.
What to retain in a research record
- Residues with explicit stereochemistry
- Notation used in the primary record
- Whether the identity method addresses that distinction
