Not reported and not detected mean different things
Not reported means the available document does not supply a result. Not detected is a laboratory statement interpreted within the method and its detection capability. These should not share the same database value.
For research use only. Not for human or veterinary use.
Use explicit status labels and preserve the source wording. A blank field cannot support an absence claim. A not-detected result also should not be converted into a universal claim of zero without the relevant method context.
Reading checklist
- Separate missing and measured statuses
- Keep the exact qualifier
- Attach the method limit when supplied
Reference: Limit of detection.
