Why sequence length does not determine molecular weight

Residue count is a useful structural descriptor, but it does not determine molecular weight on its own. Residue identities, terminal groups and modifications all affect the chemical entity represented by a mass value.

For research use only. Not for human or veterinary use.

Two peptides with the same length can have different masses. Conversely, similar reported masses do not establish identical sequences. Use the source-defined structure and mass convention when checking a record.
