Reading received, tested and reported dates
Received, tested and reported dates describe different events. The earliest or latest date on a certificate is not automatically the date the material was manufactured, and none of these labels should be replaced with a generic date without preserving its meaning.
For research use only. Not for human or veterinary use.
For a timeline, store each supplied date in its own field and keep the original text if the date format is ambiguous. A record sorted by report date may have a different order from one sorted by test date. Explain which date the archive uses.
Reading checklist
- Preserve the original date label
- Resolve month/day ambiguity before conversion
- State which date controls the displayed order
Reference: Certificate report identifiers.
