What to capture in a research-material receiving record

A receiving record connects the delivered item with its accompanying documentation. It should preserve the item description, receipt date and the certificate reached through the supplied documentation route.

Record an unresolved mismatch rather than correcting the identity by assumption. Photographs or support correspondence can help resolve a documentation question, but they should not overwrite the original record of what arrived.
