Investigating an unusual value using the original report
An unusual value is a reason to inspect the source, not a reason to delete the row automatically. It may reflect a real reported result, a different method or a transcription problem.
For research use only. Not for human or veterinary use.
Check the original certificate, qualifiers and units. If the value is valid, retain it unless a predeclared inclusion rule excludes it for a defensible reason. If corrected, preserve a record of what changed.
Reading checklist
- Open the source report
- Check units and transcription
- Document any correction or exclusion
Reference: Measurement uncertainty.
