Keeping molecular-weight units consistent
A numerical value becomes ambiguous when its quantity name and units are removed. Catalogued molar mass, molecular mass and spectral m/z should retain their respective labels.
For research use only. Not for human or veterinary use.
When harmonizing records, record the conversion or normalization rule rather than simply editing a unit string. If the source does not identify the convention, flag that field before it feeds a comparison or tool.
Reading checklist
- Keep units attached to values
- Identify the quantity being represented
- Document normalization decisions
