What decimal places in a purity result do not prove
Additional decimal places describe how a result is displayed. They do not, by themselves, establish lower measurement uncertainty or a meaningful difference between two materials.
For research use only. Not for human or veterinary use.
A comparison needs the methods and relevant uncertainty context. Avoid ranking records solely because one percentage has more digits. Preserve the original reported precision, and state any rounding rule used in a summary.
Reading checklist
- Retain source precision in the record
- Use a declared rounding rule in summaries
- Avoid equating digit count with accuracy
Reference: Measurement uncertainty.
