Distinguishing a catalog alias from a different compound

An alias is another name for the same specified entity. A change in modification, sequence or represented form can instead describe a distinct compound.

An alias table needs an evidence trail. Do not merge records because their names share an acronym. Keep the canonical identity and the source of each accepted alternative name visible so future edits do not erase meaningful distinctions.
